Who we are About Toronto Indie Shorts Awards

Toronto Indie Shorts Awards (TISA) is an independent short film festival and awards platform dedicated to celebrating creative storytelling, emerging filmmakers, and diverse voices from Canada and around the world.

Based in Toronto, one of the world’s most multicultural cities, TISA was created to provide a meaningful platform for independent filmmakers to showcase their work, connect with audiences, and receive recognition for their artistic achievements. Our mission is to support the next generation of filmmakers by promoting short films, documentaries, independent music videos, and innovative screen-based storytelling.

At TISA, we believe cinema has the power to inspire, educate, connect communities, and open meaningful conversations. Through carefully selected film screenings, industry programs, networking opportunities, question-and-answer sessions, and award recognition, we aim to create an encouraging environment where filmmakers can share their stories and build lasting professional connections.

Our Mission

The mission of Toronto Indie Shorts Awards is to promote a greater appreciation of cinema and culture by showcasing independent films, supporting emerging filmmakers, and highlighting diverse perspectives.

We are committed to creating opportunities for filmmakers from different backgrounds, cultures, and communities to present their work to a wider audience. TISA supports both local and international filmmakers by offering a festival experience that values creativity, originality, and authentic storytelling.

Our programming is designed to build audience interest in independent cinema while giving filmmakers the opportunity to reach new viewers, receive feedback, and gain exposure. The festival also serves as a cultural meeting point where Toronto audiences can experience stories from different communities, countries, and artistic traditions.

Through our film programs, TISA highlights bold ideas, fresh talent, and meaningful stories that reflect the evolving world of independent filmmaking.

Industry Opportunities

Toronto Indie Shorts Awards is more than a screening event. It is also a space for learning, connection, and professional growth.

The festival includes industry-focused programs such as filmmaker networking, one-on-one meetings, and panel discussions with professionals from the film, media, production, and distribution sectors. These opportunities are designed to help filmmakers better understand the industry, develop their careers, and build relationships that may support future projects.

Question-and-Answer Sessions

Filmmakers, directors, producers, actors, and cast members are invited to attend the festival, present their films, and participate in question-and-answer sessions with the audience.

These sessions give filmmakers the opportunity to share the inspiration behind their work, discuss their creative process, and connect directly with viewers. For audiences, they offer a unique opportunity to learn more about the stories, challenges, and vision behind each film.

Awards

Toronto Indie Shorts Awards recognizes excellence in independent filmmaking through jury-selected awards and audience recognition.

TISA presents awards in key categories, including Best Short Film, Best Documentary, Best Music Video, Best Script, and Audience Choice Award, along with additional categories that honour outstanding achievements in direction, acting, documentary filmmaking, cinematography, screenplay, editing, music, and creative storytelling.
